Good morning, ladies and gentlemen

Firstly, congratulations to Dr. Truong and his team on this major accomplishment of establishing a specialized compounding pharmacy here in Signal hill. While I am biased as to the many advantages that it’s going to provide to my students and the residents of Signal Hill, this goes much beyond.

I am privileged to serve as the dean for the school of pharmacy at AUHS, here at the heart of Signal Hill. Our school is dedicated to reducing healthcare disparities and render healthcare to the underprivileged and underserved. Our students are trained to practice evidenced based patient centered care to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.

UCRx is at the perfect intersection of where we as a school, see our future pharmacists to be practicing -Advancing pharmacy practice, going beyond just your traditional role of dispensing medication to that of individualized patient care. There is a niche area that needs to be met: Patient-specific prescription sterile and non-sterile compounding; specialized formulations for unique clinical needs; chemo compounding for cancer patients, with a focus of quality and improved patient outcomes. This is what UCRx is bringing to the community, state, and the nation.

California already recognizes advanced practice pharmacists (APh)—pharmacists with an increased scope of practice. That is where the profession is heading. We are very close to having provider status by the federal government, and a 503 A compounding facility established by pharmacists and providing high-quality, individualized compounded drug preparations will go a long way in reestablishing pharmacists as an integral part of the healthcare team.

I look forward to the start of a beautiful friendship that takes our profession forward.

God bless!
