Student Profile: Jennifer James
By Jennifer James
Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to help people. As a child, I put band-aids and ice packs on my brother’s bumps and bruises. I have worked as a Medical Assistant for over 20 years, and not a day goes by that I do not eagerly anticipate becoming a Registered Nurse. It is an honor to have the opportunity to become a nurse through the training at AUHS.
Growing up in Los Angeles, I learned that education could provide my escape from the difficulties of living in the inner city. I could not imagine the strength required for my ever-changing, uphill battle. The challenges seemed impossible to overcome, but unbeknownst to me, God’s love became a light during times of adversity. My husband of 22 years, our daughter, and our son have been my most incredible supporters.
Choosing a nursing school was not difficult; it came down to an essential factor—cost. After finding AUHS through California’s Board of Nursing, I learned it is a Christian university with Bible study, prayer sessions, and encouraging emails (which I love). I’ve had good professors, met amazing friends, and been shown kindness and support along the way—I am grateful God led me to AUHS.
I aim to be a tool God can use, partnering with fellow healthcare workers and understanding that everyone needs somebody to care for them – and I will be that somebody.
