Spotlight on Julie Poepoe, DNP
By Julie Poepoe
My last name is Hawaiian. Poepoe means “to bring full circle”
I have a BSN from San Diego State University, MSN-FNP from University of California Los Angeles and my DNP from University of San Francisco. At AUHS I am an assoc. professor for the graduate nursing program.
I am a native of Southern California–born and raised
I am married and have 2 teenage children. We have a dog name Teddy.
My values came from my parents: My parents are very hard-working people and taught us the value of education. They are also active in the Catholic Church and instilled the importance of stewardship.
I started this June at AUHS because I have known Dr. Modina for over a decade, so it was an easy decision. She’s an amazing friend, leader and nurse practitioner! My dissertation was on the importance of assessing for Food Insecurity in primary care. I am very interested in social determinants of health. I have achieved my nursing and career dreams but do need to finally get my research submitted for publication!
In my spare time I enjoy crocheting and embroidery. The beach is my happy place. I volunteer in my parish, nursing fraternity and my daughter and I are active in the National Charity League. We are thankful for the many contributions of our talented and dedicated faculty—like Dr. Poepoe!
