How We Can Keep Metabolic Health: World Diabetes Day 2026 Early Action on Diabetes
By Nona Aminian, PharmD Student 2028, School of Pharmacy, American University of Health Sciences (AUHS)
Metabolic health is a foundation that helps to prevent chronic diseases. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that affects not only how the body controls blood sugar but also mental health and can cause serious heart diseases, kidney problems, and vision loss. World Diabetes Day is an important day to raise awareness about metabolic health, prevention, and remind people that early action can make a big difference. World Diabetes Day 2026 is a public event observed every year on November 14. Its theme is “Act early on diabetes,” which highlights the importance of awareness and early action.
An elective course
As a pharmacy student, I have the chance to work on research related to metabolic and mental health during my elective course PE 913 (826): Stress Resilience Management for Summer 2026, conducted by Prof. Oksana Zayachkivska. Pharmacists are often easily accessible and can educate patients about their medications, proper medication use, adherence, blood glucose monitoring, and possible side effects. They can also encourage patients to maintain a healthy diet, stay physically active, and follow up with their healthcare providers. The project aims to study the impact of modern lifestyle on future healthcare providers’ metabolic health and raise their awareness of metabolic health self-care. Thus, I invite all students of AUHS to participate in this study by answering the original general questionnaire and the Modified Yale Food Addiction Scale (mYFAS)
