Dr. Mohammed A. Islam, PhD, RPh, serves as the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Pharmacology at the AUHS School of Pharmacy. With nearly two decades of leadership in curriculum innovation, accreditation, and faculty mentorship, Dr. Islam is a driving force behind the school’s academic excellence.

Dr. Islam holds a pharmacy degree from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and earned his MPhil and a PhD in Pharmacology from Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Japan. At the AUHS School of Pharmacy, Dr. Islam provided leadership in the development of a student-centered PharmD curriculum aligned with ACPE standards. Rooted in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), his work centers on curriculum design, assessment, interprofessional education, and student development—reflecting a lasting commitment to innovation and excellence in pharmacy education. His leadership is deeply aligned with the mission, vision, and values of AUHS. The institution’s emphasis on service, faith, and global health resonates deeply with his own values as an educator and mentor. He credits AUHS’s commitment to serving underserved populations as a key source of inspiration and growth. “Our mission doesn’t just guide what we do—it inspires how we lead, teach, and serve,” he notes.
Dr. Islam has been instrumental in guiding AUHS through all phases of ACPE accreditation—from pre-candidate to full status—combining technical expertise with collaborative leadership. As Chair of Self-Study Committees, he empowered faculty to engage deeply with accreditation standards and processes. He views these achievements as the result of collective effort. In his current role, Dr. Islam continues to guide curriculum enhancement, implement evidence-based assessment practices, and advance SoTL-informed innovations that enhance student learning and faculty development. His vision remains clear: to build programs that not only meet standards but also transform lives through education, service, and community engagement.
