AUHS Students can sign-up for free powerful AI tools from Google

UPDATE: Google has extended their promotion for college students to get a free Gemini AI account.  

Last term we announced a promotion for access to Google’s AI Platform named Gemini, which ended on October 6th. Due to exceeding demand, Google has not extended this promotion and currently has no end date. Please take the time to learn about this powerful platform and decide whether to take advantage of this offer.

This AI account includes many features, but we want to look at 3 tools that will be incredibly useful for all students. This article will focus on NotebookLM, famous for being able to convert documents, notes, transcripts and more into mini podcasts!  

You can upload PowerPoint presentations from your class, documents from your instructor, notes, or transcripts. From these you can get clear summaries, then ask questions based only on your sources to ensure accurate answers. It can also generate outlines, study guides, and new ideas, making it especially useful for students, researchers, and writers. Plus, NotebookLM can turn your notes into narrated audio or video overviews, making it easier to review and learn. In short, it’s like having a personal AI research assistant to help you study, write, and think more effectively. 

Another powerful feature in NotebookLM is the use of mind maps. You will use the documents you uploaded to create mind-maps about the topics covered in class so you can create a visual representation of the content. This is a great way to study for a quiz or exam! 

Ultimately this Google Gemini Pro account is a great fit for our students because it will help students learn using many learning styles. Another important distinction is that tools like NotebookLM use the documents and content from your class, and the AI will work from that content. This will reduce the possibility of sourcing information from the AI itself, or the wider internet, and focus the tools on what is being covered in class.
