Academic Accomplishments in 2024 at AUHS SOM and SOP
By Sandor Szabo, MD, PhD, MPH, Founding Dean, School of Medicine (SOM) and
Arjun Dutta, PhD, BPharm, Dean, School of Pharmacy (SOP)
Universities usually have three major goals: creating new knowledge (e.g., by basic and applied research), disseminating knowledge (e.g., by teaching, education activities, and publications), and public service, including patient care (if applicable). AUHS, being a relatively small and young university (just turning 31 years old), is becoming increasingly visible at the national and international levels through scientific publications that list the name of the author’s university, as well as by the participation of our faculty members in national and international conferences/symposia/congresses.
This progress is nicely demonstrated by the yearly increase in the number of publications and conference presentations by faculty members of both SOM and SOP in 2024. Namely, in SOM last year, the seven listed faculty members published 26 papers and made 26 presentations at national and international conferences. These shorter or longer presentations were done in seven countries: the USA, Japan, Austria, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Hungary, and Poland.
In SOP, with some of the overlapping double appointments, there were also publications and 20 presentations at both national and international scientific conferences.
It needs to be added that not all scientific journals are of the same quality and do not signify the same prestige. All the SOM and SOP faculty published three papers in the best, so-called Quality 1 journals (Q1), two in Q2 and four in Q3 journals. Hopefully, this trend of improvement will continue in 2025, despite our substantial teaching loads!
We also express our appreciation to Ms. Natalia Kulchytska and Ms. Manjula Dissanayake for collecting and collating these numerous publications and presentations from our faculty members.
